Event 5: Moniker Coffee

I always love our In-Betweeners events.

Often when I go to networking events I feel a little buzz of anxiety. This pressure to be “on”, and to look and sound confident, polished, and speak with assuredness of my future goals. When in reality, those aren’t even clear to me. I’ve been in a weird, liminal state since I sold my previous business, and the disconnect between my curated persona, and my need for more authentic, genuine connections often feels a bit isolating. I don’t have a thirty second pitch. I’m not there to try and promote anything, just there to make some connections.

I love that our group spans all ages and backgrounds, the common thread being that everyone is kind of in the similar boat of being humbly in transition.

Today over 30 people braved the tough world of the in-between and joined our meetup, and most stayed the whole time which was great to see.

I know “Gratitude” is a word that gets used a lot, but damnit I’m going to use it anyway – I felt grateful to everyone who showed up today and brought their openness, presence, realness, humor, curiosity. Despite the frequent interruptions from planes roaring overhead as they came and went from San Diego Airport, I think most people walked away with something meaningful today. Which I think is a pretty nice win.
